Hi welcome to SWTR!! Thanks for taking the time out to visit our page. My name is Matthew and im the founder of SWTR. Firstly i feel i should tell you a bit about me and how i got into to bikes, so here goes!
I first started riding motor bike’s when i was around 7 years old. My first bike was a Yamaha pw50, from the first moment i heard it start up and smelt combusted fuel i was hooked. My mother wasnt to impressed when the garden turned into a muddy motocross track tho! Then a couple years passed, i had become really confident on the little PW50. My dad knew one of his mates sons was riding in the school boy motorcross championships and suggested i have ago in that, so my parents bought me a second hand Kawasaki kx65. Being 9 years old and never ridden a geared bike before! I was prettty scared to be honest. But after a few sessions out on a near by moor in St Austell area i was a natural 🙈. So shortly started the SBMC, first couple of race meets were super scary! But managed to play it off to my father like it was nothing.
I remember the 5th race meet like it was yesterday, all lined up on the start line, reving up our engines! 15 secs 10 secs 9,8,7,6,5…..and were off, i got up with the front pack, kept with them all the way around the track until the last corner!! It wasnt just a corner tho! It was up the top of a massive hill which pretty much led to the finish line. But i just couldn’t do it. I was petrified, it just looked so steep to me! Got off me bike point blank refused to go down, the marshal waved my father up, he pretty much ran all the way up to help me! Obviously thinking there was a problem with the bike. Only to find i was to chicken! He wasn’t too impressed to say the least. After he got his breath back that was!! If anyone remembers the track down at the bottom of tywardreath you’ll know what i mean!
I continued racing for a couple of seasons if i remember rightly, then for my own stupid financial ignorance had to stop. One of the biggest regrets of my life that was.
After being out and away from the motorcross for a few year’s. I decided to pass my cbt and began commuting to and from work each day. As it seemed the most financially stable thing to do at the time as i was only 16. Bought myself some Chinese monkey bike type thing from my local bike dealer. St blazey Motox i think it was called back then. Little bike went alright for what it was. After riding that for a year or so i didnt end up doing my full bike license and with a little help from my parents decided to do my car licence. Sadly my biking career had come to and end.
Until 2019, now 35 years young! Im really keen to get myself back into bikes and want create an online platform for people with like minds who can come and discuss and arrange meets in around the South West of England.
I also have a little boy who im slowly introducing into bikes, and my father recently became mad on bikes! Well about 5 or more years ago now, having spent all of his life interested in cars! Best engineer i’ve ever known! I just have to say! Thanks for all your help over the years Dad. (Steve)
So since last year ive rode a few bikes, over here and abroad. Passed my cbt again! And now moving forward with my full license. Also bought a 1985 Honda MTX which im using for the trial riding around Cornwall and Devon. So now now the journey begins!
